The Council employs 400 staff and has a budget of £11m. The Council is currently in voluntary engagement with Central Government and has an Improvement Plan with target for achieving a CPA rating of "Fair" in the Autumn of 2008. The Council has a majority Conservative administration, with 27 Conservatives, 6 Labour, 6 independents and Wythall Residents' Association Coalition. The Council operates a modernised political structure with the Leader/Cabinet model, supported by non-Executive Boards: Audit Board, Scrutiny Board, Overview Board and Performance Management Board. There is also a Planning Committee, Standards Committee and Licensing Committee.
The Council has a Council Plan 2008-2011 which is supported by an annual Improvement Plan. The Council Plan is the key overarching document for the Council and sets out our business objectives for the coming 3 years. It lists our vision, values, objectives and priorities and the measures of success that support them, together with a Strategic Action Plan and our Performance Management Framework. The Council Plan is updated every year in April.
The Improvement Plan is directly linked to the corporate priorities identified in the Council Plan and is designed to push the Council through to its Fair CPA rating.
Progress against the measures outlined in the Improvement Plan is monitored on a monthly basis through exception reporting to senior officers and elected members.
