Environmental Health Unit Out of Hours Service
The Emergency Service out of hours is provided by Bromsgrove District Council to
cover those situations that occur outside normal working hours and pose a serious threat
to human health or the environment.
It is important to recognize
that the service is for emergencies only and is not a call out facility for all Environmental Health
complaints/enquiries. All non-emergencies received out of hours will be recorded and dealt with the
following working day.
Emergencies include:
- A workplace fatality where the Council is the enforcing authority
- A major food poisoning/infectious disease incident notified out of hours by the Health
Protection Agency
- Major pollution incidents where the Council is the enforcing authority (usually the Environment
Agency deal with these incidents and must be contacted on the Environment Agency
incident hotline 0800 80 70 60)
- Rats but only if they are within the rooms of an occupied dwelling.
- Captured/injured stray dogs, NOT those seen wandering around the District,
by the time anyone arrives they have invariably moved on. Issues relating to animal welfare/cruelty
must be referred to the RSPCA's 24-hour national cruelty and advice line on 0870
55 55 999
The following are examples of those complaints
not considered to be emergencies and will be dealt with the following working day:
- Burglar and Car Alarms
- Noise problems from Public Entertainment events.
- Noisy parties
- Bonfires
- Food complaints
- Health and Safety complaints
