Pest Control Service

With effect from 1^st February 2007 Bromsgrove District Council will be providing a free of charge pest control  treatment service for the following:-

Rats, mice, bedbugs, fleas & cockroaches for vulnerable eligible residents who are in receipt of the following benefits:-

Income Support
Housing Benefit
Council Tax Benefit

Those residents must be able to prove, prior to treatment taking place that they are in receipt of the relevant benefit.  To access this service, which is provided by our pest control contractor, please telephone:-

In choosing a competent contractor for pest control, householders are offered the following advice:-

Contractors should be suitably trained and hold a relevant qualification such as Level 2 Certificate in Pest Control from the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health.

It is not essential, but desirable, that they are a member of the National Pest Control Technicians Association (NPTA) and /or the British Pest Contractors Association

(BPCA). Refer to their web sites for further advice.

Finally, in addition to the above, householders may wish to consider personal recommendation from friends, neighbours or colleagues, or refer to one of the relevant trade directories.

It is advisable to obtain three quotations. Ask each contractor to tell you exactly what service you will be getting and find out if there is a call out fee. There should normally be a fixed charge for complete eradication of the pest involved and this may mean several visits to ensure effectiveness.   

In addition, the Environmental Health (Pollution & General) Team is able to give free advice about pest control matters and receive reports of uncontrolled infestations in the District. These include infestations of rats, mice and other public health pests (such as cockroaches, bedbugs and fleas). Investigations and surveys will be carried by Officers where appropriate and legal powers will be used as necessary to ensure that such infestations are controlled (Public Health Act 1936 and Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949).
