The Primary Sport Project is a response to a perceived deterioration in fitness and motor skills among primary school children. The Project is designed to deliver a safe, enjoyable and memorable introduction to a range of different sports and to encourage children to adopt healthy active lifestyles in the long term.
Sport brings adventure and excitement into the lives of children. It provides an opportunity for young people to express themselves in an energetic but controlled manner and can foster social skills and self confidence. We believe the Project will act as the inspiration for children to begin a life of sport and regular physical activity.
The purpose of the Primary Sport Project is to support and compliment the work of teaching staff in schools across the key stages of the National Curriculum. We aim not to turn the children of the District into the saviours of British sport but instead to:-
The philosophy behind the Primary Sport Project is one of maximum involvement and enjoyment. We want children to have fun. Game playing is at the heart of sessions and skill development and technical practice are always related to game play. Primary Sport Project staff attempt at all times to inspire and motivate children to continue their participation in sport after the programme of sessions comes to an end.
