Temporary Street Closures

Welcome to Bromsgrove District Council temporary street closures web page.  Here you will be able to access information on temporary street closures, an application form to apply for a Temporary Street Closure Order and other general information.

Section 21 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 empowers local authorities to close streets to prevent obstruction "in all times of public procession, rejoicing or illuminations, and in any case when the streets are thronged or liable to be obstructed".

To request a street closure for a special event, an application form needs to be completed.  If you would like to print out an application form This is a link to a PDF file. (51.60 KB) for a temporary street closure please use the provided link.

All requests for temporary street closures should be submitted early in the event planning process and no later than 2 months before the proposed event.  However, events which require many months of planning will obviously require applications to be submitted much earlier.

Please note that applications may be rejected if they are not complete and/or are received less than 2 months before the proposed event.

It is strongly recommended that event orgnaisers do the following:

  • ensure risk assessments are undertaken
  • take out suitable public liability cover
  • read and follow the Home Office Guidelines - The Good Practice Safety Guide This is a link to a PDF file. (1.25 MB) for small and sporting events taking place on the highway, roads and public places.

It is advisable to contact Police and inform them of your intended event before an application is submitted to Bromsgrove District Council, as this can often speed up the process.  Contact details can be found in the information document on Temporary Street Closures This is a link to a PDF file. (298.76 KB).

Please note that police officers will not be available to oversee any aspect of the temporary street closure.
