Sports Development

The main objective of Bromsgrove Sports Development is to encourage people to follow an active lifestyle through participating in exercise and sport.

This can be achieved by working in partnerships with schools, leisure centres and clubs, and by doing this we can create opportunities for people to take part in regular sport and exercise.

BSD aims to create sporting opportunities so that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy their experience of sport and join a sports club of their interest by:

  • Developing and supporting junior friendly sports clubs.
  • Organising a range of events and competitions including the Worcestershire Youth Games.
  • Helping schools to put sport back at the heart of school life.
  • Playing a role in developing more facilities and places to play sport.
  • Providing education and training for sports coaches / administrators.
  • Helping local clubs and organisations to receive the funding they need.
  • Working within the community to target groups who might not necessarily take part in sport e.g. girls and young people with disabilities, the elderly.
  • To target groups who are at risk of exclusion, and involve them in community activities.
  • To work with young people who might otherwise participate in unsociable behaviour e.g. crime, alcohol and drugs.
  • To work within defined priority areas to provide additional opportunities for sports participation.
  • To promote the benefits of sport to the wider community.
  • To provide information on local sports clubs and organisations.
  • Putting on holiday activities to appeal to a wider audience.
