Doctors recommend that we all take 30 minutes of moderate exercise on at least five occasions per week in order to keep fit and healthy. A 'brisk walk' means walking fast enough for your breathing to be deeper than normal, but so that you can still "walk and talk". You will feel nicely warmed up, but not hot and sweaty!!
Not enough time to get regular exercise...? Walking fits the bill perfectly, whether you walk to the shops, to your place of work or to your school. Alternatively, let the dog take you for a walk every day! Failing this, you can always join in on walks organised by Bromsgrove Council or undertake one of our pre-planned walks which have been tried and tested by District walkers.
The Council's Walking to Health initiative involves supporting local people to lead various walks within the Bromsgrove District with a view to encouraging people - especially those who have suffered heart or stroke problems - to live a healthier lifestyle.
If you are fit and healthy, you will be able to enjoy a more fulfilling lifestyle. You will also find that as your fitness improves, your energy levels also begin to increase. Any type of moderate exercise can help to increase your energy levels as when you exercise your body releases endorphins. Walking is the ideal form of exercise, whatever your age. Join one of our led walks and get out into the fresh air. Meet new people. Find a new you!
The local walks, led by trained volunteer walk leaders, range from half to three miles in length, and there is no charge for taking part in any of the walks.
If you have any concerns about your health and/or levels of fitness, the Council would advise that you consult your medical practitioner immediately and in case of emergency call 999 or NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
